Madera. It was cold and I slept in my long underwear and socks. I put my down sweater over the foot end of my sleeping bag, and sealed myself inside the envelope. I woke up with the light and it was slow pack up. I spent a few minutes in the tent editing yesterday‘s report. My water was fortunately not frozen this morning, but my power pack was down to 10. I had only two remaining reserve bottles of water. As I was rolling up my tent, I looked up and noticed that a calf was about ten feet away watching me pack. I wonder what it must have thought.   ¡Hola amigos! Para esta excursión mi nombre es Manivela Oxidado. This tour came about because I needed to stay in top form for my 2022 spring and summer tours. I was looking for somewhere south of the border to ride over winter break. I heard from fellow cyclist Jeff , whom I had met last summer at a gas station on the ACA Western Express route in Colorado. He had been riding the ACA Great Divide Mountain Biking Route and we had stayed in touch. He told me about the Trans-Mexico Bikepacking Route (Norte)  featured on Bikepacking.com and contributed by Mark Watson and Hana Black. I was immediately infatuated with the route and had hoped to do it together with Jeff. Unfortunately our schedules didn’t align. Trans-Mexico Day #13 January 10,    2022 Guanajuato, GU to San Miguel Allende, GU 78Km Start 8:50am Finish 6:08pm Ride Time: 7:45 Ascent: 1523m Descent: 1668m Tour Total Km: 1166 Details at: https://ridewithgps.com/trips/81288920 I slept well last night in palatial room number 18 at the Hotel Luna in Guanajuato. My body was still sore from climbing Cristo Rey. Fortunately the loud music from Jardín de la Unión ended much earlier because it was Sunday. I set my alarm for 7:30am but woke up at seven. I edited and posted yesterday‘s report and then began packing. The hotel breakfast began serving at 8am and I was there by 8:05.  I was on the road before 9am. I was steadfast to not get lost this time and failed miserably. I got so turned around that I went backwards on the route.
